DON’T forget to Warm-up and Stretch
IF YOUR WORKOUT DOESN’T INCLUDE WARM-UP AND STRETCHING EXERCISES THEN YOU’RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. Don’t you ever forget to do warm-up and stretching exercises before doing any kind of strenuous exercises. Failing to do so might lead to serious injuries.
Also, don’t you ever confuse warm-up with stretching. Most amateur athletes at this age often make the mistake of doing stretching exercises as their way of warming up. A proper warm-up is just a light exercise that can elevate your heart rate and prepare your muscles for a higher intensity of workout. Running on a treadmill or jumping on a rope for a few minutes is an example of a good warm-up.
DO Warm-ups Before Stretching
Before doing any kind of stretching exercises, you must first warm your muscles up. You must perform your warm-up exercises prior to stretching exercises. You must remember this, trying to perform flexibility exercises when your muscles are cold could lead to injury.
You might ask, is flexibility really important? Read this article to know the importance of flexibility.
DO NOT RUSH, Know What You’re Capable of
Gymnastics for kids is not a sport that you can master overnight, so rushing your way up is not really the best thing to do. It is not a great idea to perform back flips and splits right away if you’re just starting to do gymnastics. Track your own progress. You should be aware of your own capabilities, and know what you can and can’t do.
What you should do: Train on a Reasonable Pace
Rushing your training progress will just do more harm than good. Be realistic with your goals. Being a champion doesn’t happen in a blink of an eye, so you need to learn to be patient! :)
DO wear the Proper Gymnastics Protective Gear
Use protective gears during your training. Hey, they are made for a reason, and that is to protect you from injuries! You probably don’t want to get injured while you’re performing a gymnastics exercise, do you?
Do Watch Your Sleeping and Eating Habits
Having an adequate amount of rest and nutrition is just as important as having a good workout. Gymnastics for kids is a very physically demanding activity, and without the proper amount of rest and nutrition, your body won’t be able to perform at its peak performance.
After a day of intense workout, make sure that you get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Also, you should maintain a proper and balanced diet. Maintaining a healthy and balanced diet is very critical in gymnastics, as without sufficient amount of nutrition, your body won’t be able to recover with the stress it receives during an intense training session. Eat foods that are rich in protein, such as eggs, milk, and chicken, as it will help your muscles recover from the micro tears it gets during the training. Also, prior to training, consume foods that are rich in complex carbohydrates to give your body enough fuel to perform efficiently.
