This was Son’s second gold medal in this season’s World Cup series, following the gold medal in the ball event at the World Cup in Espoo, Finland last February.

In other apparatus event finals on Sunday, the Korean rhythmic gymnast clinched two silver medals in the hoop and ribbon competition, and also acquired a bronze medal in the ball event. She also broke her personal record in the hoop competition, after posting a score of 18.650 points. Her score was 0.100 points ahead of her previous record. However, it was only enough to finish second after Rizatdinova acquired a score of 18.800. The third spot was achieved by Averina with 18.550 points.

In the ribbon event, Son achieved the second place after finishing 0.450 points behind the Russian star Yana Kudryavtseva who acquired 18.900 points. Rizatdinova settled in the third place with 18.100 points.

The Korean rhythmic star, who just turned 22 on Saturday, took home a total of five medals as the World Cup in Sofia concludes. On Saturday, Son acquired the bronze in the individual all-around event after posting a career-high score of 74.200 points.

The FIG World Cup in Sofia was the fourth World Cup she participated in this season. She skipped the two World Cups which took place in Ukraine and Belarus earlier this month to preserve her energy and to avoid overtiring herself.
